They are probably glad they left, as things went from bad to worse for Minshew. Watson converted over the middle to Hopkins and Fairbairn converted the extra point as Jags fans filed out of Wembley with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Minshew threw another ugly interception to Justin Reid - hero of the reverse fixture in Houston with his dramatic stop of Leonard Fournette on a potential game-winning two-point conversion - and he took it back to the Jacksonville nine on a jinking run. It was maybe the play of the game, but it did not matter one jot. Houston looked to have converted the interception into a quick touchdown when Hyde tore up the left touchline on a blistering 70-yard run, but Jarrod Wilson somehow caught up with him and slapped the ball from his hands at the one-yard line. The rookie tried to ignite the unlikely flames with successive first down completions to DJ Chark and Keelen Cole, but then fired a pass way over Cole’s hands and into the leaping arms of Jahleel Addae. This left Jacksonville needing a fourth quarter Minshew miracle to leave London with a result. Minshew looked to have found Chris Conley a couple of yards from the end zone, but his namesake Gareon batted the ball out of his hands with a diving last-ditch tackle. The Jaguars were forced to be bold again on the next drive, going for it on fourth-and-10 from inside the red zone. Carlos Hyde ripped up the right side for a big gain to the Jacksonville 23 and Watson hit DeAndre Hopkins over the middle to the one, before Duke Johnson skipped round the Jaguars defensive line and into the end zone. They only needed five plays to take it 79 yards for their second touchdown and create some deserved daylight between the teams. The Jags needed a spark to start the second half, and they tried to create one with an audacious faked field goal, but Logan Cooke was hit hard and fumbled the ball, allowing Houston to take over on the halfway line and Fairbain to add another three points from 42 yards. Minshew (27 of 48, 309 yards) darted brilliantly around the pocket before hitting Ryquell Armstead for a 31-yard gain, but was forced to throw it away on third-and-six under pressure in the red zone and Jacksonville settled for a 30-yard field goal to make it 9-3, a score which held to the half thanks to Fairbairn dropping a 59-yard short of the sticks. It took until the final two minutes of the first half for the Jaguars to get any semblance of offense going. Fellow tight end Darren Fells ran it into the end zone for a one-yard score after the Jags defense fell hook, line and sinker for a fake to Carlos Hyde, but Fairbairn’s extra point was blocked. They then added a touchdown on an 80-yard drive which included Watson miraculously evading two sacks and hitting Duke Johnson over midfield, before a 12-yard completion to Jordan Akins on fourth-and-two.

Their opening drive was hamstrung by a series of penalties which pushed them back inside their own half, but Kaimi Fairbairn still ensured points by clattering a 52-yard field goal through the uprights.
